Medieval Fantasy Gown / Princess Buttercup’s Red Dress – PDF Pattern

This is a pattern & tutorial, with instructions to sew your very own medieval fantasy gown inspired by Princess Buttercup. This is a basic pattern and tutorial. Absolutely perfect for costumes, bridal and gowns, cosplay, and fantasy fashion projects!

This listing is for a Pattern and Sewing Tutorial that includes directions to create a dress.

This pattern fits approximately a 26-27” (66-68.5 cm) waist, and the final length from shoulder to hem is approximately 57” (145 cm).
The tutorial includes basic notes on how to adjust the size.

This PDF pattern can be printed on both US Letter or A4 paper. There is also a single page file you can use with a projector.

Materials Needed:
6 yd (or meter) fabric*
46 grommets size 00 + grommet tool
3 yd (or meter) plaid / checked ribbon
8 yd (or meter) lacing ribbon (I used 1/8” satin)
Sewing machine
Hand sewing needle
Matching thread

*Please note that you may require additional yardage for extra tall dresses.
This pattern was drafted for a height of 5’4” (162.5 cm) with bust 35-36” (89-91.5 cm) and waist 26-27” (66-68.5 cm).
This pattern was drafted using 54” wide fabric.

Note: This tutorial does not include the belt. The belt is a long rectangle of fabric with a buckle attached to one end and a decorative trim sewn on to the entire length.

You must have Basic to Intermediate knowledge of sewing before trying this project. It is best if you know how to do the following:

A. How to place, pin, and cut patterns out of fabric.
B. How to measure using a tape measure. *
C. Basic sewing using a home sewing machine.
D. How to set sleeves.
E. How to align straight edges for sewing.
F. How to sew a hem.
G. How to attach grommets.
