18th century Stays / Corset PDF Pattern

This is a pattern & tutorial, with instructions to sew your very own 18th century stays. This project is perfect for your next fantasy, costume, or formal event! It can be created as a historical costume piece to wear with period gowns, a historybounding wardrobe essential, or even a cottagecore or fairycore bodice.

This listing is for a Pattern and Sewing Tutorial that includes directions to create a pair of stays (an early version of the corset).

The finished garment measures 34” (86.4 cm) across the bust and 25” (63.5 cm) at the waist when laced fully closed. The front edge measures 14” (35.6 cm), and the back edge measures 15.5” (39.4 cm).
This garment can be worn with a gap in the front and/or back where it laces closed. I suggest resizing if you expect your gaps to be larger than about 3” (7.6 cm) each.
The tutorial includes notes to assist with resizing.
To achieve the best fit, I recommend you create a mockup before sewing your final garment.

This PDF pattern can be printed on both US Letter or A4 paper. There is also a single page file you can use with a projector.

Choose from two style variations.
Style A:
7 tabs per side
horizontal boning across the bust
more advanced
Style B:
4 tabs per side
no horizontal boning across the bust
easier to sew

In your download you will receive:
+ 12 Page Tutorial Book (with photographic instructions and suggested suppliers)

Materials Needed:
3/4 yd (or meter) fashion fabric
3/4 yd (or meter) canvas fabric
3/4 yd (or meter) lining fabric

2 yd (or meter) lacing cord – 4-6 yards if wearing with a lacing gap
10 yd (or meter) boning (I suggest synthetic baleen, but steel is okay too)
Sewing machine
Hand sewing needle

C. Basic sewing using a home sewing machine.
D. How to install grommets – or sew them by hand.
E. How to align straight edges for sewing.
